Abstract

This paper explores the different elements of political ideology upon which the identity discourse of several organizations of unemployed workers [the so-called movimiento piquetero] are built. The analysis addresses how these elements operate in the political articulation of different organizations in Argentina's popular field. We are interested in the types of sutures or closures present in the identity discourses through which these organizations attempt to apprehend the social and political domain. We will distinguish a series of dimensions around which the organizations take a position and structure their discourse. From this perspective, and following the contributions of Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe, we seek to compare the different fixations of meaning of each discourse, their implications to the understanding of politics, and their potential consequences on the development of potential political articulation processes
